The Boy who Lived...

You all know that Harry Potter was the ‘boy who lived’ after being nearly vaporized by Voldemort…

And so did I.

This afternoon, I was almost eaten up by Dean Aligada. Picture this… an old and wrinkly man, with white hair and white complexion, always pouting and rarely smiling.

Our recitation was conducted by group, meaning, several of us were standing, including me, for an average of two weeks. And he tantalizes, vexes and shouts at every one. Whatever you say is WRONG! You are always wrong!

At si gagong ohme naman… naka-tsamba. He asked, “If the Usury law was suspended, what other law is suspended?” At me naman, being an ‘expert’ in Remedial Law, when asked, answered, “Under the Rules of Court, allegations of Usury must be specifically denied under oath, or else it will be deemed admitted.” At dahil katabi ko si Bestfriend JV eh naghaharutan kame, “Si Mr. Remedial Law Chairman talaga.” Says he.

Nagkataon naming nakita ako ni Aligada na nakangiti. Punyeta. Patay… “Sige, mayabang ka… everybody sit down, except you!”

Everybody was supposed to recite for two hours, I became the unwitting sacrificial lamb and consumed more than 30 minutes standing alone in a recitation with DEAN AUGUSTO K. ALIGADA... Kulang na lang maihi ako sa pantalon ko, tumae, umiyak, magka-epilepsy at kung ano-ano pa. You are literally afflicted with the capital punishment. I thought I was dead. I thought I’d never graduate. And so the questions were flung… Answer them… If you don’t know, admit it. Accept every terribly word like an arrowhead from a crossbow.

“Tingnan natin kung makangiti ka pa.”

“Had enough?”

Yeah…

Everybody stood up, I was allowed to sit down… I got vexed and humiliated, called names (all though for the sake of fun) we laughed, I almost cried.

But I lived.

After class, Dean Aligada approached me and in front of the class he was telling that I look like some character from Eat Bulaga. And he was laughing. He was smiling. So came to the defense my classmates, “Sir, smiling face talaga siya.” Sa loob-loob ko, “sumbong kita sa tatay ko” (Meaning, Dean Benipayo)
And so, this day, on Carol’s birthday, I gave her the most amusing gift… legal entertainment.

After class, people were showing me obeisance and respect, shaking my cold shivering hand, or saluting me. I was a hero. I died, and I lived.

So, verily, I deserve to be called Harry Potter… inasmuch that everybody called UST Hogwarts.

coffee breaking news

Kaye is undergoing training to be a barrista at Starbucks. After two weeks, she will eventually be assigned at the Branch at Forbes Park, Near Santuario and the Polo Club.
God! in two weeks, she's a barrista, while I, on the other hand, took four years just to be one! hehehe. c", )

On the more ethereal side of things, I've been meditating on the value of friendship, and the definition of the word 'BESTFRIEND'. It conjures up scenes from movies, I know. However, being such a subjective and relative term, incapable of an exact and objective definition... let me defined the word in my own little way.
Bestfriend is Joyce. Having a girl bestfriend is wonderful, knowing that someone out there can put a little feminine perspective over things. They say that nothing's platonic between a man and a woman. Not so many know about our history, but it was a romantic tragicomedy, if not a complete satire. I loved this girl so much, but i realized that the whole situation was completely out of place, like some plot in the defunct TV show TGIS... but now, it ain't Eros, just plain platonic. I no longer envision me taking her hand after she walked down the isle, neither do I see myself having children with her, or that sort of stuff. Someone whom you can say "I Love You", kiss and hug, without being 'fired-up.'
Bestfriend is JL. A bestfriend is someone whom you can trust with all your darkest secrets. Someone whom you can be irreverent with anytime. Someone whom you're comfortable with even if you look like trash, unshaved, unbathed. Someone who'd lend you clothes when you visit them unsuspectingly. Someone whose fridge you can open anytime without asking for permission, someone who'd give most of your whims and caprices. Someone whom you're willing to invite to your home anytime of the day or night, in times of neccessity or fancy. Someone who can be crazy as hell like you. Someone whose humbled enough to admit he's rich and owns a lot of things, but at the same time humble enough to admit business reversals and the economic and social downside of things. Someone who shares with you dreams of fulfillment and contentment.
Bestfriend is JV. Someone whom you consider an arrogant enemy. Someone whom you stood up with during recitations and oppose with all your intellectual might. Someone who, despite the immense popularity, could acknowledge another great person. Someone who is a former rival, now a staunch ally in the profession. Someone who'd be willing to lend you a favor from the Favor Bank when either one of you would rise to power in the future. Someone who is ostentatiously mayabang, and infects you with that virus, after overcoming the disease previously. Someone whose worth the loyalty in this line of profession.
These are my bestfriends now. The modalitites of time, place and circumstance may change things. However, these only serve to change 'things' not the 'persons'.

three days off on december 1 to 3

three days off on december 8 to 10

yeah boy! accumulated leave benefits for section 4b! hehehehe.

Justice Japar Dimaampao is in the U.S. just two days after his return from Egypt. One less subject to worry about until December something...

Upcoming holidays (both Regular and Catholic) makes, in toto, six rest days.

The air is getting cooler every night...

And we officially have a 'Thursday Club' (simply a misnomer, 'cause we do lunch together almost everyday at Tita B's Carinderia along Rosarito st.) comprising of two ex-presidents, a present president, and a Armed Forces Captain, who would be reassigned again to the Presidential Security Guards, errr... Group, come January. During this time, we share military and some state secrets which would aptly fall under the definition of 'executive privilege' (pun intended) and conspiring on how to topple the corruption in and out of the Faculty of Civil Law, perhaps, we may call ourselves Loyalists to our Lord Dean Benipayo, whom we rever as much as how the Thais worship Rama IX.

I officially marked my territory in the Reading Area. I have my own table, bookstand, ceiling fan and seat cushion. The only thing missing is a nice pillow and an espresso machine. Yes, in our world, we have a hierarchy of sorts. In our world, one should know his place in the cosmos. In short...

Thou shalt not anger a Senior.

even worse,

Thou shalt not covet the Row Four seats.

Blog entry cum Petition for Preliminary Mandatory Injunction

Red is the color of prosperity in the Chinese tradition. And so it is published in red. Aside from the fact that Red is one of my favorite colors.

“I am the captain of my ship, I am the captain of my soul.”… Says We, during some high school English class. To whom I must attribute this, I beg pardon, for I can no longer recall…

This is the point of no return for me, my last semester would just be a little over four months, really. And perhaps, Providence gave us a break by giving us for the first time, in four years, a five-day schedule, morning classes inclusive of course… but at least, pressure is off on Saturdays.

Here’s the deal… I get to normalize my sleeping hours, since I have morning classes on certain days. I can sleep early also on certain days because I have certain days when I go home as early as 7pm, and therefore, on Fridays, I can play badminton, aside from Sundays.

Saturdays definitely would be spend in UST… although I ain’t there officially for classes, I prefer to study in school for many reasons, to wit: 1. It is more conducive for studying, 2. Starbucks is just around the corner, 3. I get my allowance, 4. I get to attend church during anticipated mass, 5. Pressure is off during Saturdays. 6. I get allowance, 7. I get to wear casual clothes, 8. I simply can’t adjust to the idea that I’m not in school 6 days a week.

For the past years I’ve been trained in our exalted profession, now is the time to exercise with utmost diligence the DISCIPLINE and RESTRAINT that has been imbued to us since freshmen. Furthermore, after experiencing the death-defying moments of last September’s Bar-Ops… I’m working with the same physical and mental force, with lesser pressure.

To us, it is no longer a matter of emotion, it is a matter of endurance. We’re in the brink of make-or-break… this is important to me.

I’d be missing birthdays, holidays, feasts and what not… it’s a sacrifice I must make, since this is the point of no return. (In an irreverent manner… I’m about to ‘cum’)

So, to all you people out there who might feel that at times I’m a bit ‘off’, becoming a control-freak, making sense of the senseless, or a bit jumpy when my calendar ain’t followed.… I beg your understanding. Time is a precious, consumable yet intangible commodity which I cannot afford to misuse.

This is the time for us to Flaunt. In a more comprehensive manner, magyabang at titigan ng masama ang mga lower years namin. We can’t help it… it’s a process. Afterwards, before the Bar exams, manginginig na kame a takot.

WHEREFORE, PREMISES CONSIDERED, the Petitioner is hereby ENJOINED to Strictly observe proper Discipline and Conduct, in accordance with the Rules set forth by the Code of Professional Responsibility.

So Ordered.

commander-in-chief

Having a soldier as a classmate in law school is fun.

I'm the only class president in UST who has his own PSG. Literally and figuratively. hahaha.

(Mind you, he really is, or rather was, a PSG Guard prior to his reassignment to Camp Aguinaldo.) c",)

back to school

before i return to school...

before i return my loyalty to the brotherhood...

i'd like to thank God for a freakin' hell of a three-week break.

I got to bond with my estranged cousin, who turned out to be someone of a similar belief as I am... and hopefully we'll have some more adventures in the future...

For the time spent with some of my college friends...

For money...

For Freestyle... who had been the college anthem/band altogether with Side A.

For Cerveza Negra...

For the value of idleness...

For the value of peace...

Now, I return to school...

To my brods and sisses...

To my classmates, to my colleagues, and to the barkadang Row Four...

But no longer to my Dean (waaaah!!!!)

No longer to the Bar-Ops...

But hey, I'll still be The first and the original Benipayo Baby... ang Anak ni dean.

Muwahahaha!

One last semester to muster...

Carpe Diem.

cleaning out my closet...

These are the things that belong to me, some could be found in my room, while others are scattered around in some secret hiding place inside the house... yep, i'm finally cleaning up the lawschool mess of last semester and reorganizing some things.... such as, but not limited to...
Filing Folders for various cases, notes in several subjects.... Still unsorted testbooklets... some of which are pleasant to look at, while others, not...
More filing folders inside all sorts of boxes and plastic containers, of previous years stacked above the Grand Staircase which is never used since time immemorial...
Legal Trash... those things which become scrap paper after use...
BOOKS... my most precious books... probably all worth about 75 grand...
My bed... full of more thrash and lecture notes for sorting...
Some notebooks from college and some materials from law school...
More books...
More lecture notes... and yes, I found some old smut tabloid folded up nicely...
I also cleaned out my clothes closet, and boy, I expelled more than a dozen clothes from my "hommie" days to the more recently used 'richly crumpled' barong which are so damn faded.
Ain't yet finished... I'd probably throwing out alot more tomorrow. Hahaha.
Though, I already gave away some shoes, sandals, shades, some silver bling from my rocker days, i still have plenty of sorting to do...
It's funny how you find old valuable things lost in the cosmos known as your ROOM...

funny how when you have idle time, you can't seem to write something nice and a bit concise, while during law school days, i'd probably write about every once or twice or thrice a week with full details....
Four days of drinking and binge eating ... i learned that alcohol is bad. I feel full of party crap. I need to do some smashing soon.
But life is great. It's still one big adventure... and somehow... i felt vivified again.
I would say that life has been very amusing lately.
