Requiem...

Three consanguines of friends of mine have passed away...

First, Ajay's dad in Tarlac.
Second, Ma-an's mom in Fairview.
Third, Geejay's grandma there in Javier St.

May God grant them rest, and to those they left behind, comfort and strenght. Amen.

I survived crmininal law...

okay, i'm done with my third revalida.
here's the picturesque scenario: you enter one after another inside the moot court, or the bar review room. with the professor sitting tall and mighty in the professor's chair or in the judge's bench. you sign in your name, and then you choose a piece of paper with three or five questions in it, all encompassing questions regarding the subject. you are given the length of time available as the previous person before you sits in front of the professor and tries his best to answer the written questions and follow up questions from the professor.
Sometimes people get lambasted, they sometimes cry either because the questions are totally out of this world, or because the professor won't accept your answer. It is a matter of life or death.
Here are my scenarios...
Political Law Review - I've got basic questions in political law and constitutional law, such as equal protection clause, state immunity, and freedom of religion. I had to apply all my knowledge in taxation in the first question, the second folloq-up question was about cuenco vs. fernan. I can't recall it. Good thing it was Rene Gorospe sitting at the bench. Follow-up question: In Re Raul gonzalez... got it! I knew the doctrine by heart regarding impeachment of SC Justices. The last written question was an analogy of Ebranilag Doctrine on freedom of Religion. I got it still, then follow-up Estrada vs. Escritor... still good... then came an unwarranted discussion of Muslim Polygamy vis-a-vis Christian sects professing the same. It would end up with a moral discussion instead of a revalida. So Rene ended it. I exit the room, I jumped for jubilation. I surpassed my first revalida.
Civil Law Review 2 - day two, and people are already sleepless and restless. Afternoon came, I entered the bar review room, at inutusan pa ko ni Dean Aligada na tawagin si Felmer or si Jaysan para kumuha ng merienda niya. I picked my questionnare. Patay. Partnership. I fucking passed through it that morning. Civil Law 2 has the most topics among the subjects for the second semester. Buti na lang 'pet' ako ni Aligada at tawa lang siya ng tawa nung una sa mga kapalpakan ko. And then follow-up by "Wrong!" "No!" Eh kahit hindi pa ko tapos magsalita eh babarahin ka na niya tapos siya na sasagot para sa iyo. Wait lang sir ha... sino ba nagrerevalida? ikaw ba o ako?! No follow-up questions for me. Instead I got a very friendly advice: "Lumayas ka na nga, binibwiset niyo na lang ako." Okay fine.
Criminal Law - Have you ever died of anticipation? Like you want to shit your guts out and puke all your stomach's contents 'till your drained of all the plasma in you? That is what we felt with Dean Carlos Ortega. The fearsome one. El Capitan Logronio even felt like dying. He's a soldier (a PSG Guard) for that matter, yet he's scared like hell. Everybody was gritty. Cecille was first to die. Alphabetical, of course, ang pagpasok sa moot court. The first sacrificial lamb. We were cheering her as if she already died a martyr. Habang nakasalang sila... nag-fire drill ang college of science yata. Putang ina niyo. Kunwari-kunwariang sunog lang yan. Kame nakasalang na sa pugon ng impyerno. I was praying hard the litany to st. jude (the patron of the impossible). When my time came, I picked questionnare no. 81. and Oh my God! Book 1 Criminal Law... all basic principles (specifically, when is abuse of superior strength aggravating, elements of habitual delinquency, and insanity as exempting circumstance) okay, relax, relax lang... maalala mo yan... I got it right, mostly, except when I answered in the question regarding Habitual Deliquency, I first said "Convicted of two or more offenses" I got the response "What do you mean two or more?! It means you don't understand the law!" followed by an evil smirch. I begged pardon. Spare me. Deliver me please. Then his face softened and said "The law says at least three convictions." Point taken, there is indeed a difference. But sorry po, tao lang, takot na takot pa ko. My blushing went away and I continued with the elements. After I've answered the last question (which surprisingly, is answerable only by one sentence) I was given permission to leave. I was jubilant when I left the moot court.
Grabe, was it the Louis Vuitton valise sized eyebags which did the works? I don't know... but perhaps, it was luck, or divine intervention. I was praying to a multitude of gods and saints. To God, for all that is destined to be, to St. Mary and St. Jude for intervention, to Kwan-Yin for compassion, and to Buddha for giving me a momentary state of nirvana based on the principle that "all is just 'maya' (illusion)"
Well, I've got to more to prepare for. Merc2 and Tax. But hey, the worse is over. Just two weeks left, of to Caleruega we go.

an entry

i've realized that pictures abound my blog lately, and not so much of my thoughts and the recent events in my life... and so here I go...

just a few days from now would be revalida... that means 'Death' for the law (and medicine) students... i am studying, but hey, you can't pump all 'em laws in different subjects in a few days time. so, que sera, sera...

second, i've been thinking of the things that I wanted to do...

foremost, i've having this urge to study martial arts once again... (okay, the first time was 'forcibly' introduced to me by my grandpa when i was still in grade school. but in fairness, i was a greenbelt Shorin-Ryu karate kid. hehehe) i don't know why... i'm probably in one of those buddhist moods of mine... i'm thinking about Wushu, Aikido, Kendo or even Muay Thai (hell! muay thai would be cool! and hopefully it would mold my body to something short of a total athlete).

secondly, I'd like to study driving. yes, i do not drive... one of the pleasures of being well-off is having a 'cha-tao' at your beck and call. although it is at times a disadvantage, especially now, that i'm on the verge of discovering (conditionally) the joys of financial independence.

thirdly, I wanted to pursue further language studies. instituto cervantes is just around taft avenue. Spanish is necessarilly my third language. But then again, there is Portuguese, Italian, French, Mandarin and Fookien. After that, Foreign Service I go...

fourth, I'd like to pursue Tennis as a sport. Of course, I'd be needing professional help this time, since my forehand and backhands involve wrist movements of badminton. (which by the way, I'm good at...)

oh well... we'll see... wherever destiny brings me about...

more pics...

Marthe and Althea

They are my new babies!
Got them from a buy one take one sale at Toby's.
Marthe (pronounced as Marthee) is my new mettalic red orange Prince Triple Threat 1000. Oh so like my previous racquet, except that the strings blood red. (btw, my previous racquet with the orange strings broke after I struck Nelson's racquet last night... poor thing, she will be surely be missed... while my other oversized head Prince Force3, well, I already conveyed to my brother. )
Althea, on the other hand, is a light blue Prince Triple Threat 1200 with baby blue strings. And oh, she's the lighter one between the two.
Both are gutted at string tension 24.
And what's with the choice of stark color contrast? Just like Fire and Water... it's all about atitude.
And what's with the name?
Just got the idea when I remembered one of our lunch time conversations with Captain Logronio, for the soldier, his rifle is his mistress.
And so, these babies are my weapons in the court. Like the old lines from old samurai films... "Be one with the sword..."
And Guess what... this is what I found in Wikipedia...
"Althea is also the name of the most beautiful woman in the world. Part portuguese, part french, part indian and part german, Althea is a truly exceptional beauty who steals the hearts of many with just the flicker of her eye or the curve of her sensual smile. The sound of her voice can make your heart forget to beat and one look from her can make your knees go weak. When you see her standing there, you'll probably fall off your chair...and when she moves her mouth to speak, you'll feel the blood rush to your feet. A one-in-a-zillion lady with a unique nature that people the world over adore......"
And for Marthe... it's just the French for Martha.
Obsession? Maybe... (FYI, bestfriend JV named his cars 'Pating' and 'Dolphin')
At any rate, I'm having fun while doing it. Hehehehe.

The end of days...

It is now February 1. Seven months to go before the Bar Exams.

This is our lifestyle as fourth year students nearing the Revalida and the Finals.

Pigging out with alot of street food. Smoking like a furnace, softdrinks, coffee, iced tea and everything caffeine laced. We're getting fatter by the minute.

The stress of squeezing in too many laws in a span of daylight to day's end is taking its toll on us, physically, mentally and emotionally. Some classmates of mine are already beginning to sing jologs Aegis songs out of the blue. We begin to fantasize that we are Kings and Emperors, Saints and Martyrs. We have dishevelled hair, we have Luis Vuitton valise for eyebags, our postures are becoming nasty. Well, that is for most of us. I, on the other hand, intent to keep up with my sport in order to balance things. A good blood circulation gives the brain more blood to process things.

This is my life. Our lives. The final push toward the last frontier.
