lex celebrationis

This is one of those rare occasions that law students get together (jointly and severally) and spend the night out in a resto bar until the wee hours of the morning.

Okay, not everybody came, despite the express invitation, which was written all over the white board, which even earned the praise of Judge Philip A. Aguinaldo (Yes, Viriginia, it did!), saying that it is good that we should establish networks despite the busy life in law school… or something to that effect.

But alas, I have heard the most lame excuses such as ‘masakit ang batok’, ‘wala akong ka-close dun.’ (Duh! That’s the purpose of it all… to grow close with each other!)

It is an admitted fact, that however nerdy we may seem to the rest of the mortal population, we have social lives, but not with each other. Except for the few rare occasions, such as this.

Anyhow, I can’t blame them; our classes have been merged and dissolved since first year, that getting involved with each other is a processual presumption (legal pun intended). But I’m thankful though that the old classmates appeared, and at least ‘one’ new classmate coming from the ‘merged’ section went with us.

It was JV’s plan to do this. I, on the other hand, was cynical, knowing in the first place that people wouldn’t really respond to the ‘call’, therefore, making them delinquent. (legal pun again --- corporate law this time) There ain’t no better time than last night since Monday is an official special non-working holiday. He issued the Executive Order, I just placed my imprimatur on it.

But at any rate, it was nice to have beer flowing down our bellies at Dencio’s Grill along ABSCBN, with smokes in hand, chatting of the misdemeanors of all, professor and student alike, while playing cards. There were over fifteen people more or less in our mediocre party. But I’m glad it was consummated. It was fun to talk incessantly using the language and idiosyncrasies of our subculture. No one was amiss with anything.

I got home around 3:30 am. I was wasted.

And remember this… BEER is NOT AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK… FOR TAX PURPOSES!

KAMPAI!!!
